Pandora- Welcome to the best music ever!

Pandora is a online (free) radio station unlike any other out there.  I was introduced by my long time friend Matt Mabry, who I used to jam with back in the day.  He moved away like most friends have.. then he sent me an invitation to check out this online radio station.  At the moment I was discovering plenty of cool music among alot of other junk I didn't care for on station hunters like itunes and other various ways of listening to music.. I was supposed to be working, but like some of you right now.. I'd rather be distracted than do my job! HA.  Thats another blog.. 

Pandora has been the best thing that has happened to my ears. Seriously.. They appreciate it. both of them.  The thing about Pandora is that it lets you start a station based on a song or artist you like.  Say, .... hmmm you like Los Tigres del Norte...  (hold on I have to thumbs up a song that is cool...)  so you tell Pandora you want music that is like Los Tigres, then it intelligently, by the way of this thing called the GYNOME project finds and starts picking songs that you might like based on the "seed" of Los Tigres.  Very cool!  So in essence, it's a custom tailored station of music based on a particular type of music.  At the same time it begins introducing you to other similar artists that you might not have ever heard of.. Matter of fact you might never go back to playing those same ol cd's over and over.. any body with me on this one?   HECK,.. that was me.. and occasionally  I still tend to do that.

Well, I recommend Pandora to one and all... es para todos!  Heres a small taste of the music I have discovered since...

A whole load of amazing Bossa Nova from brazil based on a seed of "Antonio Carlos Jobim"

Great Blue grass music- I mean some serious picking kind of tunes...

And then My current favorite station that I am tweaking  daily.. based on "Sondre Lerche"

   Love every song this guy does for sure.. haven't found one I don't like!  AHHHHHHH

Oh.. yea..    You give each song a thumbs up or thumbs down... it never plays the thumbs down songs ever again.. and occasionally will replay your thumbs up ones.. ya follow me?

Pandora was almost going to go the way of the dodo bird because of some new legislation that was going to go down that would make stations like Pandora pay huge royalty fees.  All those dang record execs getting greedy... again.  Well the people spoke up.. particulary Pandora fans stepped up and called their representatives in Washington to oppose the action.  Glad to say it didn't happen.  so Pandora still exists and continues to introduce the world to all the great music and even to the not so big time, small artists that need to be heard.

I could go on.. ok.. I will a little more... they even take cd submissions to be able to include them in the music genome... no guarantees, but how cool is that.. this is the good stuff.. lets skip all that record label hype and get that connection back.. from artist to the public... love it..

This last sunday we played this old song called, "Majesty".. I sure you might have heard it somewhere... probly in english... well.. we rocked it as usual...   I adddded a whole new section on the end.. which was awesome.. the guys did it very nicely..  I love doing that..  take an old song and just make it better..  great song.. just needed a better ending..  we used to do it and it just felt like it never got to climax like it seems like it wants to .. you know songs have a life of their own...  some songs are just incomplete..  waiting to be fufilled!  HA>. .. that sounds funny.. "alright los quit your dang deep philosophical rant and get back to bloggin!"..//  ok.. ok.. 

Thats what margo says.. i am a talker!..  poor youthgroup.. they have to sit there and put up with all my words.. I can never say enough.. 

well..  it went well.. it went good..   Oh.. yeah.. Roquelia is updated again...  It even has a fall theme going on.. how pleasant!... even though we won't see any color changing around here beside the blue, red flashing kind.. I though it would be nice to throw some more color in there..  seeing how some people think we look like a bunch of  gangsters lookin mean..  I think it adds a softer side to our otherwise manly poses.   Notice of coarse all of you transition kids out there how bad my spanish is.. well I am resolved to just write.. even though I stink at it..  obviously my english writing is only a little better..   I like periods.... cant you tell.. it's like I write as I speak.. broken thoughts... or better a stream of unending thoughts..  ...   ......  yup.. I lost all our readers for sure with this one..   Ventura,  you are still reading this though..  thanks for hanging in there... I think you might be the only one who reads this! HA...

Come to the show.. we are doing stuff in English.. so.. you won't be like... ,"what did he say?", "sounds like he said something about his mama" ...   and one more period for the road....   .

Coming up this Friday

Pretty neat,  Mike is going to a free drum clinic tonight in Otown...  we are all getting ready for this weeks show.  This sunday was great!  We continue to take all the old songs that I grew up singing and turn them into great songs.  They were already good tunes, but then get the band playing them and they are even better!  

Our website might be a little misleading.  It seems that the impression we give is that we are some kind of hardcore angry rock band.  Well, we definitely like to rock it any time we can.  At the same time we also play a ska/reggae style that seems to naturally come out.   We even do country style at times.  We just play what we like and do it with ganas!  Anyway.  I think it would be good  for anybody wondering what we are about, to check out a sunday morning service or concert.  

I am ready to rock, ska and sing my head off!  see you there.. nos vemos..

Roquelia.com updated/ jose catches on fire again...

Just got done updating www.roquelia.com !  and another news worthy event... we have a benefit concert coming up SEP 25 at the FLC.. at First Baptist church in DeLand.  We want all of you guys there con toda la familia!  

I confirmed it today and we are going to be helping Ana Diaz with some of her medical needs.  If you don't know who she is you can check it out at the website.  This will be in my opinion out debut.  So vengan todos and get ready to rock.

Also.. the live button is now operational.. I know , I know.. I am slow at getting these things done, but  now it's ready.. that will take you to some video of Jose doing back flips off the roof of his house with a blindfold on while holding a giant torch of fire in his teeth.  It's part of his new opening performance.  I think it's a little bit much, but he says he likes living la vida loca. 

So..  make sure you check that out.. and oh.. yea.. you'll find some band footage in there too.  It is cool to be a part of the band... and I invite you to join us a this gig... cause we don't rock it alone.. we need our choir there.. so bring your singing voice and screeeeeaaam your way through the best friday night you will ever have.

Roquelia y los super fantasticos

Bienvenidos,

Introducing (drum roll......) Roquelia's blog... yes, we have one on our myspace, but this will be the official spot to keep up with these guys.  My name is Carlos and get to play with these guys when they let me and so far so good.  I will also be giving you the low down on what we are doing, my thoughts on music, worship and up coming events.. mainly this is an opportunity to understand what we are doing, who we are and maybe even where it's going.  English is my preferred language but from time to time I will write in Spanish.. and I have to warn you now... my spanish writing is not good.. worse than my english...../ ok, I like to write sentences that end with lots of periods and ramDomly throW in Capital letters where they don't belong..  I prefer to write  as if I am drawing so.. grammar isn't my thing.. ok...  we got that established..

It is an honor to jam with these guys, of who the likes are; Mr.Ventura G, Jose M, Mike C and not to forget Marcs M and Ed C.  

Ok.. I feel like I was beginning to write the thankyous for an album cd cover..
